Guerlain Rouge Automatique

Rouge Automatique is Guerlain's newest lipstick formula, the brand has really been setting the bar for intricate and interesting packaging of late. This time we get a lipstick without a typical lid, but instead the top of the tube has a trap door, you push down a slider and out comes the lipstick.

The shades are available in four color families: Les Beiges, Les Roses, Les Rouges and Les Oranges.

I bought the following shades (£24.50 each). Picture above top to base: #100,#101#160.
#100 Apres L’Ondee (pinky-rose leaning cool)
#101 Voilette de Madame (subtle peachy rose)
#160 Bal de Mai (warm strawberry rose)

Swatches L-R: #100,#101, #160
As much as I like the Rouge G formula I can not get on board with their heavy and bulky packaging so the Rouge Automatique have provided a great alternative. I’d say they don’t quite offer the level of glide and almost gel feel of the Rouge G’s but the comfortable, long wearing formula coupled with elegant shades with a natural shine/moist finish, excellent coverage and good pigmentation, pretty much ticks all the boxes for me. I really do rate these and will be buying more.

I bought these from Debenhams.

  1. I bought one of these as well, and really love the packaging and formula! I think it makes one handed application possible!

  2. Lovely shades, I like how you described the 'trap door' (reminds me of a tv show when I was a kid!).

I haven't tried these yet but I did buy one of their Kiss Kiss lipsticks in the current HOF sale as they had quite a bit of Guerlain makeup 50% off.

  3. Love the look of 160! The packaging does look pretty, but quite bulky!

  4. I can't believe I haven't ordered one of these yet! Every time I've looked online at them I can't for the life of me decide what colour to try and end up ordering nothing!

  5. Beautiful choices! For me, the first two were too light but 160 is intriguing!

  7. You have picked out some lovely colours, I don't know how you do it as when I've looked, I've not been able to hit on anything I fancy. Well, I say that but actually, I think there's one I zoom in on but it looks very similar loads that I already have. It sounds like I need to stop dithering and just get on board!

Thanks for the review and tempting swatches xx

PS. Have you looked at the Lancome lipsticks at all. They're another display that I look at and can't find a single one that I want to take home!

  8. Hi productdoctor,
I'll have to try the one handed approach! They are lovely aren't they, I think as a lot of other new lipsticks have been released recently that these ones got a bit forgotton :)

    Hi Meeta,
LOL, I use to watch trap door as well!
Those Guerlain sales are dangerous, I have to try to avoid them usually otherwise I end up buying strange colours I never use ;)

    Hi Vintage Makeup,
Its not as sleek as I would like but a vast improvement over the Rouge G's. 160# is lovely, has a nice bit of brightness about it :)

    Hi PerilouslyPale,
I know what you mean, I swatched so many shades instore I completly lost track of which ones they were so I went from memory from the swatches Karlasugar did that I liked the look of and it turned out quite well, I'm sure you "need" to pick one up ;)

    Hi Joolz,
160 does have a bit more impact to it. They have quite a variety of shades I'm sure you could find quite a few you would like, there was a really nice sort of browny red I had my eye on, can't think what the number was now though x

    Hi luv2smilexo,
Thank you, they are well worth a look :)

    Hi Jane,
I think there are lots of Jane shades there, they might be similar but even better to shades you have already if you get what I mean :)
I have looked at the Lancome ones, the SA got most upset with me as I was swatching the colours so I flounced off without buying anything, I think there was one I liked out of the entire lot I'm thinking #242, although I am sure I have read bad reviews on these, have you? x

  9. These are so pretty but I'm afraid with my luck I will end up with some odd thing floating around in my bag getting in there and spoiling the lippie! lol

  10. I am so much more of a gloss girl than a lipstick girl but I must say I've been crushing on D&G lipsticks.. I know you've decided not to get anymore since the fiasco of Soiree but there are some beautiful colors, I've discovered. Hence the Guerlain rouge automatiques didn't offer much on quick browsing. I'm still tempted though for the novel contraption element.. *the stories I tell myself..!!!* LOL

  11. Hi Jeanie,
They do seem very secure so think they would be safe from anything going in, your bag sounds like mine :) x

    Hi Lakshmi,
Well you should get one just to add to your collection, like you say it is novel :) Which are the D&G shades you are liking, go on tempt me ;)

  12. Those are so chic! I'm not a lip stick person but I'm a sucker for packaging and that's one heck of a good package. ;)

  13. Hi Hopelessly Devoted To Makeup,
I think I must be the opposite as I can never seem to turn down a new lipstick release ;)
